In 1993, the UNCAF (Central American football Union) organizes the second edition of the UNCAF nations Cup and designates the Honduras as host country of the competition, all the matches taking place in Tegucigalpa, the Honduras capital.
Tournament in the form of a single group, the first three selections of the group qualify for the Gold Cup 1993.

Defending champion, Costa Rica must pass a preliminary round against Nicaragua (6-0 and 2-0 wins) to join the Honduras, the Panama and Salvador in the final phase of the competition.

On March 5, 1993, the UNCAF nations Cup starts.
Costa Rica won its first match against Salvador 1-0, while the Honduras at home does not shake and dominates Panama 2-0. Nicolás Suazo, Honduran scorer of the Club Deportivo Marathón, scored his first goal of the competition during this match at the 82'.
Two days later, while Salvador and the Panama ended their match with a score of 1-1, the Honduras welcomes the Costa Rican champion. In three minutes, Hondurans mark twice (Nicolás Suazo at the 53', Luis Enrique Calix at the 56') and won their second match of the competition.
On 9 March, Costa Rica dominates Panama 2-0, but sees soar the UNCAF nations Cup into the arms of Honduras, los Catrachos crushing Salvador 3-0, with a hat-trick from Nicolás Suazo.

With three wins in three matches, 7 goals for any cash, the Honduras won its first UNCAF nations Cup, and Nicolás Suazo, with 5 goals in three matchs, is the top scorer of the competition.
Costa Rica and Panama, respectively second and third of the tournament, accompany the Honduras to participate in the Gold Cup 1993.
