For the twelfth edition of the South American football Championship (known as Copa América since 1975), the competition is back on Argentine soil for the fourth time in its history. Among the nations affiliated to CONMEBOL, three dont participate to the tournament, Brazil, [pays:49]Chile and [pays:48]Bolivia. Other participating selections are the Uruguay, Peru, the Paraguay, and of course the reigning champion Argentina. The matches of the competition are divided into three stages, estadio Gasometro of the club of San Lorenzo (Buenos Aires), the stadium of River Plate the estadio Alvear y Tagle (Buenos Aires), and the estadio Libertadores de América which usually hosts the games of the Independiente, stadium inaugurated on March 4, 1928, which is the first on the South American soil and the second in the world to be built in concrete.

In the rules of football in 1929, no replacement players is expected during a match, and the referee does not yet of yellow and red cards.

The four participating selections vie for victory in a single group, each team in turn, meeting the first of the group won the competition. A won match scores 2 points, a match draw 1 point, and a loss 0 point.
In case of equality of points between the top teams in the group, a second round is expected to know the winner of the competition.

November 1, 1929, the South American football Championship begins.
In the estadio Alvear y Tagle in Buenos Aires, 40,000 spectators are present to attend the first game of the competition, the Paraguay against the Uruguay.
